Robert Smigel and Stephen Colbert (screenplay), J. J. Sedelmaier and Mike Wetterhahn (directors), The Ambiguously Gay Duo: Blow Hot, Blow Cold / 1997

On the 5th episode of The Ambiguously Gay Duo, featured on the November 15, 1997 showing of Saturday Night Live the evil Dr. Brainio and Bighead pair up to freeze the earth with Dr. Brainio’s ice monster. But first, Bighead is determined to freeze the relationship of the of the duo he’s determined must be gay.

Ace and Gary are out in their shorty shorts on a hot summer day, Ace announcing, “Just one more lap Gary; it’s too hot,” when suddenly they discover ice on the sidewalk. Immediately they run off to Barney’s for winter coats.

Ace suggests that Gary has made a good choice of a coat which “emphasizes the shoulders.” But a moment later they witness the ice monster and rush off to save the day.

In their Duocar, Ace asks Gary to “thrust it,” as his “Friend of friends,” reaches between Ace’s legs pulling on the throttle which extends the penile shape of their machine.

Meanwhile, the villains discuss Ace and Gary’s sexuality, Dr. Brainio not at all convinced that the duo are gay, arguing that he certainly hasn’t seen Bighead lighting up the town, his villainous friend arguing he does just fine, although even one of his henchmen wonders who he might be seeing.

At that very moment the duo crash into the villains’ hideaway. Immediately Gary disables their control panel for which Ace once again awards him a pat on the butt, which results as usual in their stares as once more Ace wonders what everybody’s looking at.

In the next moment, however, the ice monster freezes them stiff. But just quickly the ice begins to melt, Ace announcing that “There freeze ray couldn’t withstand the heat of your warm young flesh,” this time even the ice monster amazed at what Ace has said. Admittedly, this is the most obviously gay of the episodes to date.

As the ice monster attempts to freeze them again, the duo outdances the darts of ice and break through the monster by entering his rectum, destroying his powers. Now Ace truly does wonder what everyone’s looking at, as all the villains, including the ice monster himself, chant “Nothing!”
