This film, obviously a wedding, begins with the groom Jed (Matt Devine) telling his father that he has been the best thing in his life, helping him to be himself. Two elderly lesbians reveal that they have been together 22, no 23 years, and argue that if they can make it work, anyone can. Two beautiful women admit that after 25 years of fighting over him they realize they are just not Jed’s type. The mother of the bride, speaking mostly in Italian, emotes that Jed has made it clear that “love is love” and “family is family.” Jed and Fabi have just married.
In short, we are quickly led down a path that suggests this wedding is
perhaps a gay affair. But a moment later the bride and groom, very much a beautiful
heterosexual couple, are shown sharing the first bite of the wedding cake.
Then Jed takes out time to introduce his loving parents who had
supported his decision from the very first moment, two gay men, one who dances
with him, the other dancing off with Fabiana (Ana Maria Lagasca).
Yes, this is very much a gay film, but not in the way we might have
expected.
